Stephen, Radhika and I met with the Advisory Board. Yuri Afanasiev from RBEC was also present.
After the presentation by Stephen, members of the delegation raised serious concerns about the relevance of ICT vis-�-vis other development priorities. They saw huge obstacles in practical terms for Africa in relation to infrastructure, basic education and capacity commitment among others. They saw a great danger in the apparent current overemphasis on ICT and raised the issue of hype.
A brief discussion endued with the ICTD team and the RBEC representative. In the end, the delegation did no seem to be satisfied with the arguments and examples presented.
It is advisable that for meetings of this sort we prepare relevant materials specifically addressing some of these issues like for example an FAQ complemented by a series of concrete examples and case studies
